Convex is different, and that‘s no accident. It's the result of the years our team has spent working in software and developing principles we value more than other people's conventions. And so our product has a kind of opinionated design that manifests and reinforces those principles.
None of this makes "going to market" easy. But, in our view, that's the price of making something exceptional.
Perhaps self-servingly, we happen to think all the most interesting systems and products are designed in principled ways that reveal the values of their creators. We love using those systems, studying them, and talking about them with other passionate builders.
So let’s do that
This fall, we’re organizing Abstract, our conference about principled design. We’re inviting builders and designers whom we admire to not merely talk about what they’ve created, but why they’ve made it the way they did. What principles inform how they work?
This isn't just about SaaS. It’s about physical products, games, education, etc. So we’ll be welcoming speakers who design thoughtfully from all manner of disciplines.

We are taking no paid sponsorships. It's important to feature the most interesting people and ideas, regardless of who's willing to pay for a slot.
The particulars
Abstract is on September 2nd, 2026. We're holding it in San Francisco at SFJAZZ Center. If you want in, head to abstract.convex.dev to get on the waiting list. We'll follow up soon with the speaker list, agenda, and more event details.
AI is making everything else cheap. Design is the only essential value left—and it's never been more important, or more leveraged.
"Abstraction is not about vagueness, it is about being precise at a new semantic level."
